Best Movies of 2020... So Far

Gambar
The film industry, like so many industries and businesses throughout the world, suffered immensely due to the coronavirus pandemic, which began in late 2019 but didn't hit the United States until 2020. The pandemic forced all movie theaters to close. March 13th was the last weekend that theaters were open. All theaters and theater chains closed that following week. Films that were supposed to be released starting March 27 into June were postponed to later dates this year or in 2021. Some studios resorted to releasing films within that time frame directly to video-on-demand services. Some independent movie companies shared money with independent movie theaters. Others did not. Such was the case with Universal Pictures, which released Trolls World Tour  (2020) directly to video-on-demand. After Universal announced it would continue releasing movies directly to video-on-demand even after the pandemic is over, AMC Theaters decided to boycott Universal's films. There have been rumor

Come on! When we think of television in the year 2020, in the year of coronavirus, no doubt we'll think about Joe Exotic and the big hit of the quarantine times, that of Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness  on Netflix. In general though, most of the TV shows that were most in the conversation were documentaries or docu-series like ESPN's The Last Dance  or HBO's McMillions . Because of the recent developments in the news, Netflix's documentary on Jeffrey Epstein also proved timely. A documentary about a shocking case of sexual assault called Outcry  premiered on Showtime. There was even the documentary about the alleged sexual abuse from rap mogul, Russell Simmons, called On the Record , which was one of the new shows that launched HBO Max. Yes, HBO Max is the latest streaming service or video-on-demand, subscription service to launch on the Internet. Ever since Netflix has been such a success and a pioneer in the business model, we've seen so many video-on-deman

Bob Dylan released his first album of new material in eight years. It's called Rough and Rowdy Ways  (2020). It scored a 95 on Metacritic, based on 22 reviews. It garnered nine reviews with 100 as the score. Alex Suskind at Entertainment Weekly  says it's not a protest album but contains elements of protest. Yet, according to Metacritic, even Dylan doesn't have the best album of the year. That honor goes to Fiona Apple and her fifth studio album titled Fetch the Bolt Cutters  (2020). It has a 98 on Metacritic, based on 26 reviews. It has eleven reviews with 100 as the score. Like with Dylan, her album comes eight years since her last of new material. Laura Barton of The Guardian  calls it "a glorious eruption; after eight long years, an urgent desire to be heard." Dylan's lowest score is currently a 67, whereas Apple's lowest score is 80, which pretty much means universal acclaim here. I'm not as fond of Dylan's album, but I do love Fiona Apple'

20. BUBBA WALLACE - Darrell Wallace Jr. aka "Bubba" is the 26-year-old, NASCAR driver from Mobile, Alabama. He started racing ten years ago when he was still a teenager. He currently drives the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. This is pure coincidence, but along with his surname, though no relation, my first car was a Chevy Camaro. I'm not a fan of NASCAR, but I became enamored with Bubba in 2018 when he became the highest-finishing, African-American driver in the Motorsport after competing at the Daytona 500 and the video of his press conference went viral, which was of him breaking down. Normally, I don't include athletes on this list, only actors and actresses, but Bubba did lend his voice in Pixar's Cars 3  (2017) and he was the star of Behind the Wall: Bubba Wallace  (2018) , a web series on Facebook Watch, which followed him, leading up to the Daytona 500. However the reason he's on this list is due to his stance this year against NASCAR allowing the C
